School Closure Effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020
St. Mary of the Angels closed effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020
Instruction continues remotely
No athletics or other school activities until further notice
Dear St. Mary’s School parents and families,
As directed by the Department of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Santa Rosa, St. Mary of the Angels Catholic School will suspend all on-site instruction beginning Tuesday, March 17, and all instruction will move to remote learning.
While we do not have a current case of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in our school, the decision was informed by our duty to protect the health and safety of all members of our school community and our larger responsibility to take action to slow the spread of this virus.
Students and faculty will be on campus tomorrow for regular classroom instruction. Faculty will share with students plans and procedures that will be used during the suspension of site-based instruction. Additionally, students should take home any materials they need for the time period through Spring Break. If you feel at all unwell, however, you must stay home and report your absence to the St. Mary’s school office.
Continuity of learning is a priority at St. Mary’s. Teachers are prepared to email students their assignments, and to offer resources and online opportunities to enhance the curriculum and to ensure students can continue learning and study at home during this time. Some instruction may come through the mail. St. Mary’s teachers worked at our faculty meeting on Wednesday and again on Friday to create choice boards and lessons to share with students, and we will continue to learn more about distance learning.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate these challenging times. It is unprecedented. The education and safety of our students is a privilege and a responsibility we take very seriously. More information will be shared with you in the coming days.
God bless you and your family,
Mary Leittem-Thomas, Principal
Fr. Peter Reddy, Pastor
